WITTENBERG, WI – A long-anticipated sidewalk project in the Village of Wittenberg is officially moving forward, aiming to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility along a one-mile stretch of roadway.
Shawano County Supervisor and Village Board President William Switalla says the project has been in the works for years and is now ready to break ground. “It’s all set. All we’re doing is waiting for them to start construction,” Switalla said. “It’s been about four years in the making.”
The sidewalk is expected to be completed by November and will include key features such as concrete curb ramps and detectable warning fields, designed to improve safety and access for people of all ages and abilities.
Switalla emphasized that the project is about more than just adding pavement. “It’s all done just for the safety of the residents,” he said. “A very good grant is backing it up, and it’s about accessibility as well.”
The total cost of the project is approximately $1 million, supported in part by grant funding. Once completed, the new sidewalk will provide a safer, more inclusive route for pedestrians in the Wittenberg community. Construction begins on the new sidewalk July 28th.
